Women Helping Women

On 1st Mar 2009, Sunday, the PA's WIN Council launched mentoring programme to help girls from needy families. I was privileged to be selected as their Mentoring Programme Consultant and Trainer to help train WIN Council design its programme and to train their volunteers become effective Mentors. My workshops with them started in November 2008 to February 2009.

"The People's Association Women's Integration Network or WIN Council launched today its first mentorship initiative aimed at reaching out to selected primary school girls from needy families in Singapore.

The Groom a Child to Excel or GRACE Mentorship Programme will allow grassroots leaders from the Women Executive Committees to nurture the girls and allow them to reach their fullest potential."

Not only the young under-privileged girls will get help, but Here’s help, single mums too.
"Unwed mums in tougher spot

Mdm Halimah said the :“WeCare for U” project is open to all single mothers, including unwed ones. Such mums often find themselves in even tougher situations, as they are not entitled to Government-funded maternity leave or tax relief because of their unwed status.

Calling this a “controversial issue”, Mdm Halimah said certain policies would be difficult to change as they were intended to encourage procreation within a family unit. For now, she feels the core focus should be on helping all single mums attain independence by helping them find jobs and providing social support"

It's indeed "controversial", not only in terms of national policies for single mums, but also their moral implications.

Online Pre-Counselling For Ladies

Sometimes various issues control our lives and we find it hard to cope. Online counselling can give us the opportunity to share with someone who can listen and help us stay positive to find a way to deal with such issues in the best possible way in the privacy of our home.

From my own experiences as an Online Pre-counsellor, there seems to be a rise in the number of cases. As such TWOS will start an free Online Pre-Counselling Chatline at this TWOS blog soon. Hopefully it will be ready by end of this month.

We are recruiting volunteers who have the followings attributes:
  • Matured female
  • Min. age 21 years old (those below 21 will be considered for befriending service only)
  • Have a heart to help other girls or women
  • Patient and empathetic
  • Good listening skill
  • Able to stay online at least 4 hours a week
  • Able to attend monthly volunteers meeting
  • Know how to use MSN chat or other chat application

For those who are keen to volunteer in this service, please let me know. Briefing and training will be provided.

Update on TWOS Family Hi-Tea Relaxing Treat

Thank God for the enjoyable and relaxing treat for ourselves and our families at Comfort Place (Paragon) on 8 Dec 08. It was a good time of catching up with old friends and members we don't have much time to fellowship with (though we do see each other in church on Sundays).

With the downturn of the economy and a strong comment by someone that it wasn't sensible to have such 'enjoyment' I was somewhat discouraged at first. But I was glad that there were 14 of us on that day.

I really hope that more ladies will come forward to help us plan and organize events like this (once or twice a year) for 2009. Kindly contact me if you are keen to help.

Wishing everybody here a blessed and bright 2009.

TWOS Fellowship Through the Years

Hi Ladies,

Unknowingly, TWOS have been around for over a year, since August 2007.

We have tried various monthly fellowship time and day (both Sat and Sun) to suit as many ladies' preferences as possible. However, as usual, it seems impossible to satisfy everybody's unique preferences without sufficient committed and available volunteers. As there is no one available to lead the Sat Fellowship it has stopped since the beginning of 2008.

Our monthly Sunday TWOS Fellowship remains, and the next one will be held tomorrow as follow:

TWOS Fellowship

When

Sun, Oct 5, 2:00pm – 3:30pm

Where
Alpha & Omega (map)
159 Amtech Building, Level 2, (Lobby 1 Lift)

Description
We will be doing a topical study on "Spiritual Skincare".
All ladies are welcome to our fellowship.

We are still looking for more lady volunteers who would like to help make TWOS Fellowship a meaningful and successful one. If you like to help please contact the TWOS Admin anytime.

Cheers!
